If you’re in need of a dental bridge procedure in Hastings-on-Hudson, our doctors are experts at high quality cosmetic tooth replacement. A dental bridge literally bridges a gap in your smile to replace one or more missing teeth. The adjacent natural teeth serve as anchors and are fortified with porcelain ceramic crowns. The missing tooth or missing teeth are replaced with a natural looking false tooth called a “pontic,” which is connected to the adjacent crowns.

There are many types of dental bridges our doctors specialize in. They include:

The four main types of dental bridges are explained below.

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional bridge bridges the gap of one or more missing teeth and is reinforced with porcelain crowns. We offer 3 unit bridges and 5 unit bridges to restore your smile. This is an excellent option when the adjacent natural teeth are healthy, so they can support the bridge.

Cantilever Dental Bridge

A cantilever bridge is also known as a two-unit bridge. One healthy, natural tooth is reinforced with a strong porcelain crown to support the pontic tooth that fills the gap. Since a traditional bridge is stronger than a cantilever bridge and can withstand more biting and chewing forces, cantilever bridges are more suitable for the front of the mouth.

Maryland Bonded Bridge

Like traditional bridges, a Maryland bridge is bonded to two natural teeth that serve as the bridge’s foundation on either side of the gap. Rather than using crowns to reinforce the bridge, this option is quite conservative, in that it uses a porcelain or metal framework that look like wings to hold on to the supporting teeth.

Implant-Supported Bridge

Implant supported bridges are incredibly strong and long lasting and can replace a number of missing teeth. Rather than natural teeth being the foundation of the bridge, the anchor teeth are supported by dental implants and dental implant crowns. This is a longer process, involving first an implant surgery to secure the implants into the bone, a waiting and healing period, followed by a final restoration. The result is a beautiful, healthy, new smile that can support the forces of chewing.
